PROGRAM: Fairbanks Youth Advocates  (FYA) 

REPORTS TO: Fairbanks Youth Advocates Board of Directors

STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

SUMMARY: Provide visionary leadership, direction and communication to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives, maximize FYA’s mission performance and impact, and ensure financial sustainability. Build FYA’s organizational capacity through program administration. Foster collaborative relationships with community agencies, businesses, individual donors, congregations and community partners.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in related social services field and/or leadership and or 3-5 years of leadership and management experience in ministry, human services, or related fields,
  2. Minimum of 2  years experience recruiting, developing, and supervising staff and/or a core of volunteers,
  3. Demonstrated track record of leading and managing an organization or increasing an organization’s capacity and growth,
  4. Meets minimum qualifications of Assistant Administrator, according to the Alaska Child Care Residential Regulations/ Community Care license, or must be able to pass approval by the state licensing board.
    1.  7 AAC 50.200. Qualifications of administrator 
    2.  (a) The administrator of a residential child care facility or a foster parent must be an individual who is at least 21 years of age. 
    3. (b) An administrator must be of good character and reputation, have an understanding of the development of children, the ability to care for children, positive experience with working with people of different cultures, and the skills to work with children, family members, division staff, community agencies, and, if applicable, staff of the facility. 
    4. (c) The administrator of a Residential Child Care Facility must have management and supervisory skills necessary to plan and evaluate programs, select and supervise personnel, and manage finances. In this subsection, “select and supervise personnel” includes the delegation of responsibility and motivation of staff. 
    5. (d) The administrator of a Residential Child Care Facility must have at least 60 semester hours of college credit or an associate degree in a human services field. College credit in management will substitute for 30 of the 60 required hours. In addition, an administrator of a residential child care facility must have a minimum of four years of increasingly responsible supervisory and administrative experience in a child welfare agency or other setting that serves children, adolescents, or both, with at least one year of experience in a residential setting. 
    6. (e) In addition to the requirements of this section, an administrator must meet the personnel qualifications set out in 7 AAC 50.210. 
    7. (f) The designated administrator shall submit to the licensing representative the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of four individuals, at least three of whom are unrelated by blood or marriage to the designated administrator, who can provide references attesting to the designated administrator’s good character, reputation, interpersonal, and professional skills. 
    8. (g) The licensing representative will assess the qualifications of the designated administrator. If the review shows that the person is not qualified under this section and 7 AAC 50.210, the licensing representative will inform the agency that the individual may not serve as an administrator and that the agency’s license is subject to denial or revocation unless a qualified administrator is designated within 30 days of receipt of notice by the agency. 
  5. Experienced in generating revenue for an organization as a volunteer or a professional,
  6. Able to pass State/Federal Background checks as required by the State of Alaska.
  7. Must have a current Alaska Driver’s license.
  8. US Citizenship

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary Functions as it relates to Fairbanks Youth Advocates:

Leadership and administrative responsibility for achieving FYA’s mission and vision, and assuring FYA’s efficient and effective operation in the following ways:

  1. Public Relations / Communications
  2. Finances / Fiscal Oversight / Grant and Contract Management
  3. Fundraising / Donor Development
  4. Planning and Operations / Program Development
  5. Human Resources / Staff and Volunteer Development

  • Public Relations / Communications

      1. Promotion and Marketing of Fairbanks Youth Advocates brand and mission to raise awareness, inform, and build a strong and sustainable support base.
        1. Execute marketing and volunteer recruitment plan,
        2. Implement plan for regular communication with partner organizations and community leaders,
        3. Maximize fundraising events to promote FYA’s services
      2. Provide oversight to maximize communication
        1. Newsletters, brochures, and other print media
        2. websites, social media, and other means of electronic communications
        3. Media coverage in Television and Radio
        4. Presentations – including the use of latest technological resources,
        5. Networking with multiple audiences

  • Finances / Fiscal Oversight / Grant and Contract Management

      1. Responsible for the overall budget, budget management, and accountability, and fiscal management,
      2. Assure compliance with legal, financial, and ethical requirements to funders, donors, and constituencies,
      3. Ensure proper practices regarding financial audits, prevention of fraudulent uses of funds, record keeping, control systems, and proper reporting,
      4. Responsible for directing the Board in annual budget planning,
      5. Oversee grant writing,
      6. Negotiate and manage contracts,
      7. Staff salary reviews & recommendations

  • Fundraising / Donor Development

    1. Responsible for the overall fundraising efforts to achieve FYA’s mission and implementation of its programs,
    2. Develop and execute funding strategies that the Board has laid out,
    3. Coordinate the Board, staff, and volunteers in FYA’s fundraising efforts,
    4. Coordinate communication with donors, sponsors, corporate foundations, and government grants,
    5. Increase individual donor support through appeals and correspondence,
    6. Increase and development of new funding opportunities,
    7. Organize and oversee promotional and fundraising campaigns and special events,

BENEFITS:                                

Salary: Starting at $65,000  DOE

Annual Training Allowance:  $1200.00 (more as needed)

Paid Personal Leave: 4 weeks – to be divided over the year, increasing in the following years, TBD..
