We have a number of donated items that have been stored in an empty truck trailer behind Joel’s Place: couches, dining room set, chairs, metal framed bunk beds, desks, etc. all for the shelter.
This spring the roof was leaking from snow melt so I purchased 3 blue tarps and tossed them over some of the items.
This week, the E.D. from Joel’s Place called and said kids were getting into this tractor trailer and we needed to put a lock on it. The doors on this trailer are not your average doors and they are a bear to deal with on a good day. Rather than purchase a chain and lock – I asked if the AmeriCorps crew was available to move those items for us and indeed they are. So labor is donated!
Next Wednesday, June 13th, at 1:00 we will move (with your permission) all the items from storage at Joel’s Place into an outside storage unit at Alaska Mini Storage off of Wembly.
I will look at what we have and get the smallest unit possible but here is a sample of the prices:
10 x 35 = $175/mo
10 x 30 = $150/mo
10 x 20 = $110/mo
and they have a few more sizes in between.
Since this is a significant monthly cost – yes we have the funds to cover it,
1) I am asking you to ok it.
2) Does anyone have a truck/driver that they could donate so that we have ours and 1 more operating on moving day. Time wise – 1:00 to 3 or 1-4 at the most. The storage unit is close to Joel’s Place so it should be an efficient use of time.
Thank you everyone for your timeliness in answering.
I will measure the furniture and rent accordingly. We have labor donated by AmeriCorps. Danny thank you for the truck – yes – I think we can accommodate you with a vehicle if you need to get to work. 2 Trucks should be good but not sure if I can find a back up driver. . . let me work on that too. Check in with me Wed. a.m.
Thanks everyone.
Sounds like it needs to happen. I say yes.
Yes, sorry no truck to offer.
sounds like it is a necessity. ok by me. no one has a connex (spelling?)that we could use? or is that what we are renting? When we needed storage we rented with option to buy a connex..for future thoughts.
Hi Kathy, we have essentially had it in a free connex since last fall.
I’m all for it. I’m post call that day and, hopefully, will be able to help (I’ll recruit my two boys also) move after about 2pm. At the very least, you can use my truck as long as you swap a vehicle for me to drive (only if I get called back to the hospital). I have a Dodge 2500 series with a full 8 foot bed…….just for such occasions!!
Danny
Please proceed as you see fit.

Proceed as necessary. Is there anyone who has expressed desire to volunteer that might have a vehicle or ability to help? Ken Pleasant?
Yes- go for it!
