- Staffing:
- We have 5 staff who are also sheltering in place with youth. We meet weekly with staff via Zoom. Staff are getting tired, they are out of sorts a bit. Easter weekend – Alnise gave them words of encouragement and created unhealthy Easter baskets to cheer them up. Macalaugh and Alnise are calling in on shift changes (8A, 4P, 12P/A) and Macalaugh is now going over to shelter – into the office once a week – to try to stay on top of shelter/youth and paperwork.
- VISTA: Dianna – She is working with us on the YHDP. She started just prior to the shelter in place so she is working from home.
- YHDP update:
- We are currently working on the details for the Community Action Plan (68 pages) for the needs of the different communities throughout the state.
- Transitional Age Youth Project: We submitted an RFI Request For Information to Alaska Housing Finance Corporation.
- Clearwater Updates: Hiring a receptionist, Marylee will go to Home Depot to get a ‘punch door’ key for the Clearwater front door. Sometimes the battery part can fail so good to have a key.
- COVID-19
- Staff are still in ‘shelter in place’ mode. There are 4 youth in the house right now. There is a quarantine room with 1 youth who has 3 days left before they can come out. Alnise has been working with Dr. Carey and Dr. Simon closely. Dr. Carey toured the shelter. She shared about extra steps in cleaning, use of masks, and she provided staff with a new thermometer. She was impressed with what was in place, and left resources. Dr. Carey and Dr. Simon advocated for us with Public Health to get us tested (staff or kids) with 1 symptom only – which felt like a blessing.
- Alnise applied to the AKCFoundation for a $5,000 grant to cover extra expenses due to Covid-19. She just learned prior to this meeting – it was not awarded. 300 applications – lots of need.
- Sunrise Cares – May 21 all proceeds (.50 cents a cup) would benefit The Door. FYA was chosen for May.
- Money Report: We don’t have reports for you, though working closely with Wilson and Wilson. Philene was off last week Alnise has been talking with her and she learned there were far more “holes of information” missing than previously thought. Alnise was working to get documents to her today.
- Internal Control discussion and support for Alnise. MSP: Tim/ Paul Tim Moved to have Jim Williams, the treasurer, more involved in Quick Books. Joyce suggested another board member consider being involved as well.
- Donations are up. Over $2K in response to the Newsletter, and $3k this week.
- A community donor is giving $$ for us to give directly to the staff but wants it to look like it came from FYA admin. Discussion: how to give the staff a blessing of $200 each. It was agreed that we would just put cash in an envelope and say, “This is a gift from The Door”

- Jim would like to offer his help and support to Alnise as she works on this. Yes, Jim, thanks for your help! Get in the weeds with the finances.
- Financial reports: we just have not been able to get any of the financial reports yet – as we are able to get more and more information to Wilson and Wilson – this will be resolved.
