Tamara Hornbuckle from Lily of the Valley Church has been talking with Sarah S. The Church wants to hold an annual run (May 28th) – a 5k on behalf of FYA. They have been speaking with the running club. (Our first contact with them was Wed. of this week)
At this point, they would like our permission to hold this event, use our logo, and get our opinions on T-shirt design, brochures, fliers, etc. before publishing.
What they are asking from us at this point:
- Help with finding a T-shirt Sponsor
- Volunteers on the day of the event
This seems a big enough deal that I feel that I need board input. Do we want to move ahead, what do we need to know that we don’t?
We will move forward with this. We will keep you posted.
Thank you everyone for the feedback.
Sounds like a great idea. Following up with the details will be key. Needs prayer and planning and I like it.
We will get more people if we start/end at Alaska Land. It’s just easy for people.
This sounds great to me! Good time of year after school gets out so I will be able to volunteer. If they are the ones organizing it, I say let’s go for it…I’m wondering how many people they already have to help and how many people they would expect us to find as event volunteers. I could probably bring a few helpers.
I know we have discussed this option in the past, and it is helpful to see that someone else has interest in organizing such an event. There are a lot of “runs” in this town, but I agree that the timing is good with the advent of spring. A few things to consider are the long term development of this as a fundraiser, and how to brand/advertise. The participants will likely be our constituents, but it would be good to explore ways to reach a broader community, either through offering a drawing with prizes after the race, or some kind of lure. Given the time of year, a road race, or hard surface is probably in order due to likely wet ground on trails at that time.
Where would it start and end?
Most runs have tv and radio adds.
How motivated are their people?
I love 5ks. People are more motivated to do run/walks in the spring (in my opinion) I think May 28th is a great time
