We have before us an expense of $6,794.00 for the renovation of the little pink house next to The Door. This was not in the 2014 budget but clearly – the need existed. We purchased 132 for these reasons:
- In order for The Door to operate with its Residential Child Care License, we need to offer family mediation and counseling.
- Limited space at The Door – necessitated the need for more space and counseling offices near by with opportunity to expand on land as we saw fit
- Clearwater Counseling was paying approximately the same for rent, that is now paid in mortgage.
When Johnson River was done using 132 October 31st, we began working toward a minimal list of what needed to be done before the counseling offices could move in:
- paint interior,
- replace doors with stained new doors
- demo closet in bedroom – to convert for office
- demo bathroom – to convert to office
- patch, trim shelving, remove range and range hood
- replace all lights and fan with uniform lights
- replace all door hardware with uniform locking pieces
We sought 3 people for bids and two declined due to our timeline. We wanted the property done as soon as possible. Nathan Woody, someone Dave B and I have known for a long time (and whom we had personally hired for work) and trusted him. He said he could work on 132 in Dec./Jan. and gave us a bid.
There is a designated donation for $5k to cover most of the renovation expenses. The rest needs to be covered by the agency. Dave could just pay it directly from Clearwater – but we are also wanting to keep the board apprised of all that it takes to operate this business. I should include that FYA also has paid ~ $1400 for carpet and installation.
I would also like to add – we were very pleased with Nathan’s work, and would consider him in the future – if we decided to move forward with replacing the roof, etc. in the future.
I need immediate permission from the board to pay for these costs please.
Thank you
I vote to approve!

I second the motion that FYA goes forward with the payment for the above renovations.
I make a motion that Fairbanks Youth Advocates goes forward to with payment of $6794 (using the $5000 donated to FYA for this purpose) for the essential renovations delineated above.
