Stories:
-
We continue to have 3 brothers stay with us nightly. They began coming in February. They are 16,17,18. None are attending school nor have graduated. The parents both live in town. Mom houses the daughter/sister but doesn’t house sons/brothers. Dad was incarcerated for a while and told boys he would take them to Hawaii when he got out. He is no longer incarcerated – but because of his life style, the boys stay with us. They are polite, enjoyable and talented. Two of them got their GED’s in May. The 17 year old is working out details to go to UAF this fall. The 18 year old was moving forward with the firefighter routine, but in the end – purposefully seemed to let it go. He was worried about not being available for his brothers – and or not being able to watch over them.
We care alot about these boys and there are several volunteers that have connected closely with them as well. The boys seem to have stabilized though the youngest one can be challenging at times.
We really don’t know what the future holds for these brothers, but we know one thing. We are happy to know they are safe and still connected to caring adults.

Video: have video taped me and volunteers and working on 2.5 min. or so promo video and 30 sec video PSA ($800 per finished minute – that is ½ the rate, Neumuth Advertising is doing it – Tyler Williams)
-
Lots of donated air time with radio PSAs on all sorts of radio stations but this will slow down. Now that folks know we are spending some $$ on advertising – the free stuff will dwindle a bit.
-
JP paid for our air time from a grant for month of june

With project funds we will continue to employ the Program Director, Shelter Supervisor, and Shift Manager for the 12 month period. We will hire a second Shift Manager approximately two weeks prior to the opening of The Door, in November. The part time Family and Youth Case Manager position will move from being a 15 hour position to a 20 hour a week position upon the opening of The Door. Two Administrators (Director and Shelter Supervisor) are necessary to comply with state standards for licensing a Residential Child Care Facility with a specialization in Emergency Shelter.

I recently received the paperwork for this grant, and need to get it notarized, gather proof of insurance, etc. then mail it back to Anchorage.
