Original message from Dave Miller:
Greetings,
Here is an update on our shelter project.
The City received two bids. Both were over our budget. The low bidder seems to
have the superior product and all involved with the scoring process gave them
the highest score for all considerations. We are facing a crossroads in that we
need to raise additional funds or material donations, in order to make the
project happen. Marylee can share details at the board meeting. The upside to
all this is that the new building will be over the top as far as quality,
durability, design and usefulness to our mission. I guess the other upside is
that we really need to ask God again for His help to achieve our goals. I’m not
sure how much of this info is public yet, so please keep it confidential for
right now…
Marylee’s update as of 6/24/2013 (I turned this into a blog incase you have ideas – then we can respond and see each other’s comments.)
I spoke with Patrick Smith, today. He would like us to have some solid ideas to propose for additional funding suggestions prior to this Friday’s meeting with firm who “won” the bid. Please be in prayer regarding this. We need some clear direction and a miracle would work as well.
How much over budget?
Approximately $150,ooo.
There is 700,000.00 approximately left of the Community Dev. Block Grant
Is the ‘amount’ over the budget available? Did ‘they’ not know of our budget constraints? Is it unreasonable to look at what would put it within our budget; adjustments that don’t hinder energy saving and safety?
Prayers and miracles are always appreciated and the latter has happened more than once in my lifetime, so I joyfully expect them; but, I also come from a frugal upbringing which makes me want to stay on budget. Obviously, I am not a business woman, we did recently decide on purchasing the house next door..Am I naive?
Kathryn, it will take a bit of variety to bring it back within the allowed budget. No, those who were putting together a bid proposal were not told the budget but just told the details of the project. If they did their homework, then they know what the budget is and or know they are over budget.
Always in my prayers, miracles are above my pay grade but I will try. Suggestions for fundraising; facebook appeal, a bike ride not giving out any shirts, some activity collecting money for laps, putting a visual out for community to see showing raising money and our intended goal, ect
