Warm Greetings Fairbanks Youth Advocate Board Members,
Please take a moment to review theJeffrey Roman Bizzarro Resume and application for consideration as a new or future FYA Board Member.I believe you will find my dedication and involvement within the Fairbanks community is extensive.I came to Fairbanks in 1994 compliments of the U.S. Army and when my enlistment was completed my wife and I realized that Alaska was home. We discovered that Fairbanks was a safe community with quality schools and a place where we could put down roots and raise our 3 sons.My background has been mostly from the Labor world and I feel I can bring a unique perspective to FYA as a” hands on/boots on the ground” type of viewpoint. In addition my contacts through the local Union Organizations can provide a resource to FYA fundraising, volunteering and political advocacy. When my wife of 20 years passed away in 2008 I found my self seeking solace through community involvement and volunteering. Having raised 3 sons here I understand and am familiar with the struggles and challenges that today’s youth faces, and now that they are starting their own life’s journey I have been searching for a Non-profit agency to become active with.I look forward to serving on The FYA Board of Directors and working with you all to tackle the issue of homeless youths in our community.I have read the by-laws and understand the commitment and collaboration required as a Board Member. The following are two references that you can contact to validate my statements.Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins: 907-347-0066Fairbanks Borough Assembly Member Kathryn Dodge: 907-479-8103Respectfully Submitted,Jeff Bizzarro
This is Jeff’s reply when I asked him about a ques. or two that he did not answer:
Hi Marylee,
Thank you for your consideration, I will respond to the questions you asked about.
1.We use email or our board website for most of our business. Will accessibility or
technological ability be a problem for you?
I do not for see any technological or accessibility problems.
2. Have you read and can you agree with the Bylaws as written? as well as our Board
Member Responsibilities, Code of Ethics, and Job Descriptions?
Yes.
3. Why are you interested in serving on the board of Fairbanks Youth Advocates?
Having raised three children in our community I am aware of the challenges and struggles the youth of our community faces. I see a strong need for a youth shelter in our community especially given the climate in which they live and I would be a strong advocate for a permanent solution to the issue of homelessness.
4. What is your professional experience with leadership and/or your accomplishments in
business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector:
Although I have no formal training in nonprofit management and facilitation,I was the Assistant Business Manager for local 1243 Carpenters Union which is a 501c-5. I believe I can bring a unique perspective to the agency.
5. Briefly outline your volunteer service for other organizations:
Please see the attached resume for my community service. What is not listed is my recent involvement with the Breast Cancer Detection Center as a volunteer for a month long fundraiser.
6. What are some specific skills and strengths that you can bring to the Board
Compassion, vision, community connections, a hands on approach to advocacy and collaborative efforts.
