so here are just some of the happenings:
1) We’ve applied to the city for a change of status for the house: From Triplex to Emergency Shelter
2) We’ve submitted an application for a Vista AmeriCorps to the state. It now needs to be approved at that level.
3) We’ve contacted 5 banks, mostly local, to see if we can get a loan against the house – -to help with renovation costs. We’ve had 2 offers and are weighing them. Currently the house is still in our name, however – dave and i are really wanting the house to be in Clearwater’s name.
4) A small AmeriCorps crew has been at the house all week. They pulled carpet, padding and tack strips, linolium, staples, etc. They’ve dismantled the swingset, the shed, and trimmed the tree. Dave worked along side them most of MOnday and will be there today to haul the debris away. (A roll-off was secured for free – however they did not have the clearance they needed to deliver it.
5) Linda has begun working on a “rack-card” for us. She basically got it started. I’ve looked it over – and trimmed down some of the wording but we would like input from those of you talented at “advertising” or who have opinions about advertising. P.S. The shelter needs it’s own business liscense and it’s own mission statement.
6) We’ve ordered a metal Chimney piece for the top of the chimney that was crumbling.
7) We had the electric turned on – (our name currently) have received tax bills and garbage bills, etc. – So lots of decisions to be made.
Personally, we are excited about the progress. . . .but also feeling overwhelmed and a little frantic for the need to share the load. This past weekend I attempted to start a list. There are many things that need to be done on all levels. For Dave, it means trying to do this inbetween sessions. For me – it means – weekends, evenings or grabbing a few minutes of my work time, etc. You get the idea. Grow the board, yes. But also time to roll up sleeves and decide how best to be involved.

Hey all, ive been out of Alaska for nearly a month but will back on the 4th and the Aug 5th meeting is still on at my place. I’m flexible on the time so whatever works for everyone. Is 6:00 or 6:30 OK? Thanks for the update Marylee, it sounds like a lot is happening.
