FYA Fundraiser Committee: One Homeless Night April 12th, 2014
Attendance: Sarah Finnell, Meryem Kugzruk, Kathy Birch, Marylee Bates, Barb Tyndall
No obstacle course. Structure idea is a better outlet. Structure competition broadens age group to all ages.
Go to churches? Have a church team- youth and adults.
Approach churches to youth and adults.
Have Dave be in charge of judging? Design Alaska on judging team?
Prizes: most funds, structure competition
Structure competition: most duct tape/least duct tape, quickest, most stable, most beautiful, most Victorian, etc.
Contact Covenant House on timeline in terms of funds. Maybe month from date of event to collect for funds.
Optional prayer walk. Other events: yoga class? Musicians? Juggling? Hacky-sack contest? Hip hop?
Spirit of event: giving to homeless youth, steer away from soliciting donations for prizes. Prizes can be ribbons, certifications, or medals.
T-shirts- right now a part of registration. Maybe do silk screen? A stencil that you roll onto the t-shirt, than let dry.
Re-write Minor Consent form. Make a simple brochure? One packet with paperwork for youth, adult teams, churches, commercial businesses
Make brochure/minor consent form before school gets out.
Brochure- pledge form, minor
Registration- $25, get pledge form, t-shirts will be given at the night event
T-shirts- Trademark
Potential of being a $20,000 fundraiser- right now have a goal of $10,000
Places to target right now: churches and schools, Design Alaska
Have staff, adults assigned to students (so students don’t have to bring a chaperone)
7-9pm – check-in, pick up shirts, structure building competition, background music
10-11pm- judging and awards
7-midnight- stations (food, yoga, prayer walk, music, juggling, encouragement cards, thank you cards to donors, youth serve hot chocolate? etc.) Not on a timeline, carnival-style
Pledge form- needs to be revised. Checks highly suggested rather than cash. Should there be a deadline for donations?
Packet- includes brochure with all of information
Registration- after they registrar, pledge sheet comes in the mail
Clean-up- Door youth? Bring everything over to the Rescue Mission for recycle.
There was a positive response in the group to having a early registration fee vs. late registration fee.
Next steps:
Create brochure (Sarah S. will have that in about 2 weeks)
Talk to Covenant House about registration, timeline, etc.
Getting information on people’s radar-pass out brochures, going to businesses, corporations, schools, etc.
Next Meeting: May 17th 10:30-11:30am at Gulliver’s
