Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to send a brief update on the picnic plans and make a few, minor requests of the group before our meeting in July so we’re prepared for a great event…
First of all please please please put this event on your calendar ASAP! It will be Wednesday, July 17th from 4pm-8pm at the Pioneer Park Picnic area near the playground (volunteers are invited from 5-7, but we will need “all hands on deck” for set-up and clean-up). We are inviting about 40 volunteers to this event, so there will be plenty of work to do and people to feed!
Jeff is working on acquiring the food (as a donation from local businesses) and will be operating grills with chicken & salmon (& hot dogs for the kids). He is also talking to Mayor Hopkins about hopefully attending and making a small speech.
Kathy has been soliciting “appreciation” items from the community (gift cards, etc) to give out to the volunteers. Her husband, Mel, is a wonderful musician and will provide musical entertainment with his guitar (folk/rock/standards).
I am working on invitations with Sarah Smith. I’m also hoping for cards for each of the volunteers, signed by the kids and (if possible) a few stories about how specific volunteers have been helpful for specific kids.
Here’s what we need (from you, or someone you know who’s willing to give):
- Tablecloths
- Flower centerpieces for the tables
- Side Dishes (salads/veggies/bread)
- Beverages
- Desserts
- Items for kids activity table (coloring books, bubbles, sidewalk chalk)
Please reply to this post and let us know what beverage, side dish, or dessert you’d like to bring, if you can supply vases, flowers, or tablecloths, OR if you’d prefer to donate money. Together we can throw a great party to show our volunteers just how much they mean to our organization!
We will solidify all plans at our next meeting in July…which is just one week before the picnic!
Thanks and happy summer.
Sarah Finnell
