1. We use email or our board website for most of our business. Will accessibility or technological ability be a problem for you? I have a personal cell phone with internet access that I carry with me everywhere.
2. Have you read and can you agree with the Bylaws as written? as well as our Board Member Responsibilities, Code of Ethics, and Job Descriptions? Yes, I was especially drawn to the fact that no specific religious organization oversees The interest of FYA.
3. Why are you interested in serving on the board of Fairbanks Youth Advocates? I believe in being involved in my community and volunteer for many diverse organizations. I am particularly drawn to help those less fortunate. Growing up there was only a handful of individuals who assisted me to endure the harsh conditions I lived with, so I have always strived to listen and help others as possible. No one should feel alone.
4. What is your professional experience with leadership and/or your accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector: I have worked as a Social Service Assistant in the Substance Abuse program on Fort Wainwright for the past year. I previously worked for Fairbanks Resource Agency as a Care Coordinator for the National Caregiver Grant. I moved back to Alaska when I obtained the FRA position excited to help families get respite for careproviders. The NFCG was to be 25 families, but the administrator spread the program to assist nearly 50 ultimately resulting in a sliding scale fee to be instituted on folks of minimal means. I chose to leave at that time and have worked on post assisting Soldiers to transition to the civilian world and to provide support while involved in Substance Abuse treatment. I have a MPA and prefer the environment of the Non- profit world and seek to be involved in a program that assist disadvantaged youth.

I am sorry – my mind is going in a few too many directions, I should have shared what our protocol is regarding new applicants, although you can see it at the top tab under POLICIES. We have agreed that everyone reads this BUT makes no comment here on the blog. Patrick will call references, or appoint someone to do that. We will discuss the applicant either prior to the board meeting in a teleconference, or at the board meeting – that is up to the board. We must be 100% in agreement on the applicant for them to join. That’s it.
Thanks for asking Kathryn!
