IN GENERAL:
I have been entirely consumed the last few weeks with ‘pleasing’ the city council and really getting that issue dealt with and dealt with properly. I am looking forward to being passed this and deal with some of the other things that have taken a back seat.
Sarah and I finally have spent a few days getting to know each other and helping her to feel place orientated. We toured Fairbanks, got bus schedules, went to the Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitor’s Center, up to the U. We still have plans to go to the museum. We went over her VAD which is her job description. Her current task is to research different fund raiser ideas and present them to the board at our next meeting.
NETWORKING:
* I attended Arctic Alliance on 11/2 and explained our purpose and goal, passed out rack cards – there were about 25 health & human service providers there and representatives from the Interior Delegation. * I attended ‘Chamber’ (Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce) on 11/15. Linda Setterberg, Joel’s Place, introduced me to the group formally. Chamber meets every Tuesday at the Carlson Center. It is attended well by leaders in the community. These are the 2 organizations that I would recommend that we join. (see blog post)
*Lindsay (Essential Accounting) helped me set up files for FYA.
*Rescue Mission: Rodney and I have been meeting nearly every day. This man is filled with so much wisdom. I am excited for our new friendship and partnership. He is just so wise and shares wisdom all the time. I think I’m going to call them Rodneyisms. For example, when we are talking about getting together and I am wondering if he has time. . . he has said several times: ‘Marylee I hire smart people to do their job and I let them do their job,’ – in other words – I am not busy and am available for the things that we need to talk about. We are going to continue to meet in the afternoons as often as possible. I will start attending Staff meetings at the Rescue Mission.
* Miscellaneous networking: writing and emailing a letter strategically asking for support at the city council meeting 11/14. Also, more letters asking for letters of support for the CDBG proposal. Talking lots to E.D.s – they are all interested in sharing advise.
DONATIONS:
John Tippit delivered a working computer and keyboard to the office for Sarah, value $350.00.
Gary Pedretty set up the Internet and connected the computer to the printer. (Dave and I will invite him for dinner)
HOURS: I have been averaging 45-50 hours a week, and that is with taking most of Mondays off. I am logging this for no other reason than tracking inkind if we need to, but also so we know how many hours it really takes to do that which we’ve been given to do.
