Celebrating Service
June 23, 2014Fresh Starts
August 1, 2014Angels, if they are for real – then we were visited by at least one this week.
Transitions are not easy. Amazing things have happened in a short period of time, but quite frankly … we have been feeling a little battle weary lately. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up,” a poignant reminder that we all get weary now and then. So when a total stranger showed up at our doorway yesterday and said, “The Father has put you (The Door) heavy on my heart,” and then proceeded to raise her hands in our entry and pronounce, “Shalom in this home!” … goose bumps were present all around; the perfect encouraging word at the perfect time.
Shalom is an interesting word. It is widely acknowledged that Shalom means peace, but perhaps you didn’t know Shalom means more than that. It is a feeling of contentment, wholeness, well being and harmony. In addition, shalom means complete health, welfare, safety, tranquility, rest, and is, at basic, the absence of agitation and discord. A lot of meaning packed into one word!
Shalom is what we seek for this space; a place of rest, free of discord, embodying safety and unity. Shalom is what we pray and hope for the youth coming through our door.
Shalom is what we need for all of us.
So we say, “Amen to Shalom over this home,” and we pass this blessing along to you too, “Shalom to you and your household. May you not grow weary of doing good!”
