We need you!
May 11, 2015One Homeless Night
September 7, 2015Saying goodbye to dear ones is never easy and this month has been especially a hard. At FYA we have 3 staff transitioning to new adventures. Nicole Merriweather, our Shelter Supervisor, is moving back to her home state of Iowa. Nicole has been with us since the first month we provided shelter in 2012. Her experience was critical in our initial licensing phase. Sam Chamberlain started as a volunteer when we were providing shelter at First Presbyterian Church but soon became an employee whose voice brought balance. He was firm, yet fair; flexible, yet centered. Sam will be entering seminary this fall in Minnesota. Alison Slay, completed her nursing program at UAA this May, and is preparing to take her board exams and because that wasn’t enough – got married this summer. We wish them all the best and are grateful that they shared their lives with us!
In addition, we say, “Goodbye” to two members of our governing board who have been instrumental in our growth, Brad Johnston and Kathy Birch. Brad was our interim Treasurer (for 3 years) and provided critical input and oversight in the development of sound fiscal policies and grant acquisition. Kathy Birch, a mighty force, passionate about kid safety is relocating out of state with her husband. They will be missed!
Lastly, we are saying goodbye to a beloved–and one of our first–volunteers, Pastor Bob Sugden. Bob pulled many shifts, was always upbeat, and distributed his quirky humor blended with patience and an enduring presence. Bob, you are an awesome gatekeeper!
To all of you…
Wishing you always…
Walls for the wind,
A roof for the rain
And tea beside the fire.
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all that your heart may desire.
