Hitting the Ground, Running.
September 4, 2012Finding Stability
October 5, 2012This Sunday we had the opportunity to attend the Revive The Red Tent season opening at the Empress Theatre. We delighted in the samplings of their upcoming shows – ranging from an improv show “inspired by the good – and bad – of the holiday season” to a movement piece about the shape and weight of fear. Their shows are powerful, contemporary, and real.
Revive The Red Tent is “dedicated to the creation of art which gives voice to those who otherwise would not have one.”
This winter, they will give voice to the stories of homeless youth.
Fairbanks Youth Advocates is partnering with Revive the Red Tent to present a series of monologues – true stories from youth, in their own voice, expressing the wide variety of experiences of homelessness. The show will be a movement-based piece that uses the stories, set and movement to convey the emotions and realities of homeless youth’s lives: isolation, fear, hope, cold, freedom. We’re very excited to work with such an incredible, talented, professional and inspiring group. We can’t wait to present these stories to the public, raise community awareness, and help break through the stereotypes and judgement that we hear when we talk about homeless young people.
Look for more information later this year – the show is tentatively scheduled for July!
