March 17, 2015Recently I was looking through personnel files, hunting for the highest level of education for each staff. When I finally got to the last file, I was brimming from ear to ear. Now, I know these people. I hired them! But looking through all their files collectively for one piece of information taught me a lot. Indulge me for a moment to share with you Who We Are. There are twelve employees associated with The Door:
- 2 of us have Master’s degrees,
- 7 of us have Bachelor’s degrees,
- 5 of us are students,
- 3 of us have a medical or nursing background,
- 2 of us are working on our degree in the field of social work,
- 3 of us are teaching or former teachers, &
- 5 of us are either ordained ministers, youth leaders, missionaries, or children of missionaries.
Our Hobbies? We scrapbook and cross stitch, we design living spaces and sing, we swim, sled, ski and run, we love to sew and make things, we read and write, we love to cook.
Interesting things about us:
- one of us was a personal assistant to a NASCAR driver and on his pit crew for 3 years,
- one of us went from homeless in 2007 to homeowner in 2014,
- one of us has our own business of handmade items,
- one of us loves to longboard,
- one of us competes in long distance running,
- one of us was a D.A.R.E. officer to grade school students, &
- one of us made up their mind to work with youth when they were in 5th grade.
We are professionals. We cross five decades of life, altogether over 100 years of working with kids and teens. And of course, we are proud to be here for kids, serving our community.
