The Mommas
May 29, 2013Demolition!
July 31, 2013We are so very excited and pleased to begin construction of The Door, the future 24-7 shelter for homeless youth being built here in Fairbanks! Johnson River Enterprises and Design Alaska have partnered to design and build our future home. This renovation is fully funded by a community-initiated grant for construction, a Municipality Community Development Block Grant from the State of Alaska. We know many of you have followed our journey, and we appreciate your support!
Our current building (above) will be torn to the foundation and rebuilt as an energy and space efficient home for youth looking for safety, support and shelter. The shelter building, ‘the Door,’ will provide 24-7 shelter services, case management, and resources to reunify youth with their families or to find stability.
We are excited for our future. Since opening our overnight (9pm-8am) shelter in December, in partnership with First Presbyterian, we’ve seen more than 120 different young people. These youth need safety, stability, and help reaching their goals. We are eager to expand our services and continue providing shelter for homeless youth in Fairbanks!
