Emergency Solutions
July 5, 2012Parenting a Teen
August 6, 2012This last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Jana Kreofsky of the Street Outreach and Advocacy Program and Sean O’Shea of the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation for a round-table on youth homelessness, as part of the Fairbanks Focus show, which airs Sundays at 6:30am.
For all the nerves involved (we were given little notice that we’d been invited onto the show, and this was my first opportunity, as a VISTA, to share with the public what we’re up to) – the discussion was a good one. We were able to discuss the need for a youth shelter in Fairbanks, the difficulty getting accurate numbers of youth effected, the prevalence of sexual exploitation, the need for more community education, and the specific needs of these youth, and so on. It was a pleasure to join with Jana to talk about this community issue – SOAP is an incredible resource, and we are so grateful to have – and extend our own – support from Jana and SOAP.
