Sarah F., do you know Kathy? \u00a0Barb, when you get back in town, and life slows a tad, call me regarding this applicant and a reference check.<\/p>\n<p>Fairbanks Youth Advocates Board Member Application<\/p>\n<p>In our interest to grow and expand services to the at-risk youth population in the Fairbanks and\u00a0the greater Interior Alaska Community, Fairbanks Youth Advocates seeks board members with\u00a0a heartfelt passion for this cause in conjunction with personal qualities of integrity and credibility.\u00a0Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for both cultivating relationships, and building\u00a0consensus among diverse individuals and community organizations is critical to our ongoing\u00a0growth and success.<\/p>\n<p>It is imperative that FYA board members have a proficiency in the use of the Internet and e-mail\u00a0in order to efficiently contribute, communicate and make decisions in a timely manner. Why are you interested in serving on the board of Fairbanks Youth Advocates?<br \/>\nI believe I have a calling to help our youth be healthy, safe, and hopeful.<\/p>\n<p>4. What is your professional experience with leadership and\/or your accomplishments in<br \/>\nbusiness, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector:<br \/>\nI am a registered nurse in the state of Alaska. I have worked in hospitals<br \/>\nand clinics (both private and public sector) and I recently retired as a school<br \/>\nnurse from the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. I still work<br \/>\noccasionally for Child Find, helping to identify developmentally delayed<br \/>\nchildren to help them find programs to aid them in their transition into the<br \/>\nschool system. I have taught health and safety classes for staff and students.<br \/>\nIn the past I have been a relief supervisor and charge nurse.<\/p>\n<p>5. Briefly outline your volunteer service for other organizations:<br \/>\nThrough my church I have helped youth volunteer at the Salvation Army<br \/>\nRescue Mission, KJNP, Women in Crisis and Prison Ministries. I\u2019ve led first<br \/>\naid classes for Daisy Girl Scouts. I also volunteer at the Fairbanks health<br \/>\nfairs.<\/p>\n<p>6. What are some specific skills and strengths that you can bring to the Board?<br \/>\nI am a team player with an extremely positive attitude and a love of children. I<br \/>\nhave experience helping at-risk individuals (with or without special challenges)<br \/>\nand a unique perspective on the public school systems and the struggles<br \/>\nyouth face when coping with family issues, transience, and emotional and<br \/>\nphysical abuse. I\u2019ve been a liaison between families and children with the<br \/>\nappropriate agencies to help the find them proper social services that can<br \/>\nassist them in their times of crisis.<\/p>\n<p>7.
