{"id":3077,"date":"2015-07-27T08:29:38","date_gmt":"2015-07-27T16:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fairbanksyouthadvocates.org\/board\/?p=3077"},"modified":"2015-09-16T12:06:02","modified_gmt":"2015-09-16T20:06:02","slug":"july-draft-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fairbanksyouthadvocates.org\/board\/2015\/07\/27\/july-draft-minutes\/","title":{"rendered":"July 22, 2015 Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FAIRBANKS YOUTH ADVOCATES<\/p>\n<p>BOARD MEETING 7-22-15<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call to order<\/strong>: 5:06<\/p>\n<p><strong>Present:<\/strong>\u00a0 Patrick Endres, Tami Manning, Chick Wallace, Barbara Tyndall, Dave Miller, Sarah Finnell, Marylee Bates, Janelle Bronniman<\/p>\n<p><strong>Absen<\/strong>t: Meryem Kugzruk, Liz Fabian , Dean Gustafson<\/p>\n<p><strong>Open In prayer<\/strong>: Chick Wallace opened in prayer<\/p>\n<p>Patrick welcomed our new shelter supervisor, Janelle Bronniman.\u00a0 Janelle shared some of her history in working with kids and youth. \u00a0\u00a0She said she felt God\u2019s leading to work at FYA.\u00a0 Ministry is a priority for her.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Approve the minutes for May\/June:<\/strong>\u00a0 Patrick moved, Tami seconded.\u00a0 Approved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Signature items<\/strong>: \u00a0<strong>*<\/strong>Sarah Finnell moved\/ Chick Wallace seconded to add Janelle Bronniman and Liz Fabian to the list of signers for the Alaska USA account for Fairbanks Youth Advocates.\u00a0 Approved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p>Paperwork from Alaska USA was circulated for signatures and Janelle was added to the list of signers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Executive Director Report<\/strong>: \u00a0Marylee is off shelter schedule as of July 1.\u00a0 \u00a0She is usually in her office at the brown building next door.<\/p>\n<p>Before she left, Niki had four weeks of leave on the books.\u00a0 She used up a week and we paid her for the rest. \u00a0Checking on leave, Marylee discovered she has over 200 hours.\u00a0 She is taking Fridays off or half days to get that down.\u00a0 She is going to rewrite the policies concerning leave and will review staff leave monthly.<\/p>\n<p>Janelle has been a great fit.\u00a0 She is a fast learner and is a great asset to the team.<\/p>\n<p>Marylee wrapped up the BHAP grant this week.<\/p>\n<p>The grave concern is that we only have a couple of kids on a regular basis at The Door.\u00a0\u00a0Marylee is setting up one exterior bus\u00a0sign and interior signs are up presently.\u00a0 All the radio stations are doing free PSA&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Marylee is talking to law enforcement.\u00a0 NP police, Troopers, UAF police are all getting the presentations about the shelter.\u00a0 The word is getting out about FYA.\u00a0 Marylee went to briefings to talk to the officers.<\/p>\n<p>She is starting to go to the Chamber of Commerce twice a month.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Fairbanks putting together plan for commercial sale of marijuana. Recommendations 200 feet.\u00a0 Need to advocate for greater distance.<\/p>\n<p>Grants:\u00a0 Golden Valley Electric grant; due on July 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The Rasmuson Foundation likes to provide furniture for office and reception in new office space.\u00a0 To acquire that grant we need 100% giving participation by board members\u2014cash donations.\u00a0 Dave suggested that board members receive a reminder of where we are in our giving.\u00a0 Marylee will\u00a0ask Arlys to provide and update for those would like to have it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One Homeless Night<\/strong>:\u00a0 September 11, 2015.\u00a0 Board looked at website for this event.\u00a0 Members will schedule planning sessions for this after tonight\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treasurers Report<\/strong>: \u00a0Report is posted on line by treasurer Liz Fabian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Green House Report<\/strong>:\u00a0 Dave Miller said that the status on project is good.\u00a0 We budgeted $40,000 to renovate the green house.\u00a0 Contractor bid\u00a0 too low and Dave has worked to get it up. \u00a0They have started to get above $40,000.\u00a0 The house needs ventilation and is being worked on.\u00a0 Needs to have a healthy environment.\u00a0 Decisions have been made to make this new, long-term, commercial and durable.\u00a0 It will be done right and look good; but will not be high end in cost.\u00a0 This building will provide a conference room for meetings and training.\u00a0 Should come in close to budget.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong>Patrick suggested we add $5000 to the budget to complete it.<\/p>\n<p>Chick Wallace moved that we budget up to a maximum of $45,000\/ Patrick seconded.\u00a0 Approved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p>The white house needs research to decide whether to tear it down or remove it? Dave is looking at what will be most cost effective? \u00a0A group of volunteers are here to work on it.\u00a0 Dave says it\u2019s going to work out.\u00a0 He may a have quote by tomorrow. Dave is going to be traveling soon and hopes to have all this on-step before he leaves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Board Training<\/strong>:\u00a0 Mike Walsh can join us during a meeting for a board training.\u00a0 Chick Wallace, Liz Fabian, and Tami Manning all need training.\u00a0 Training will be scheduled for the next board meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong>Dean has not attended last three meetings and has not responded to Patrick\u2019s messages.
