We will send Rilene a letter of appreciation for the time she served.\u00a0 Adena also resigned to pursue her education.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah moved to approve May minutes.\u00a0 Patrick seconded.\u00a0 Approved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p>Board training:\u00a0 Connecting with our mission:<\/p>\n<p>Q. What is the source for the name of our shelter(The Door)?<\/p>\n<p>A.\u00a0 Sam Shoemaker poem \u201cThe Door\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The poem was made available to board members on our web site.<\/p>\n<p>Board members signed thank you notes for our volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Voting items: None.<\/p>\n<p>Project update\u2014Marylee Bates reported on the latest news concerning the building project.\u00a0 The best bid came in $150,000 too low which we had to find in contributions.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0At the last minutes (4:40 pm) we were put on the agenda for the City Counsel meeting last week.\u00a0 This saved us two weeks of waiting.\u00a0 (Needed unanimous consent to do this)\u00a0 The Counsel voted unanimously to provide $127,000 more for this project.\u00a0 The board is praising God for His miraculous provision.\u00a0\u00a0 FYA needs to close the gap to provide the remaining funds.\u00a0 The bidder took out some items.\u00a0 We can count donations in appliances, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Marylee asked if we needed to vote concerning the acquisition of the house adjacent to The Door.\u00a0 After discussion it was decided that no vote was necessary since the board had already voted to purchase the property.<\/p>\n<p>Discussion concerning how to recognize those who have contributed to The Door.\u00a0 It was suggested that the recognition be on the building itself.\u00a0 Marylee would like the kids who come our way to know people donated because they care.<\/p>\n<p>Marylee related a personal story of a seventeen-year-old girl who wants custody of her sister\u2019s baby.\u00a0 She will be eighteen next month. The girl\u2019s own story is what makes this important.\u00a0 She said she had been on her own since and had never known she was wanted.\u00a0 She wants this baby to know she is wanted. \u00a0\u00a0Alaska Legal services offered to help her.<\/p>\n<p>Staff reports:\u00a0 Marylee said that staff are doing extra shifts to cover vacations for other staff. \u00a0She asked us to keep Tony and his wife in prayer.\u00a0 They have a baby due in September.\u00a0 They were in the emergency room the previous night to stop premature contractions.<\/p>\n<p>Discussion of progress report to those who have donated.\u00a0 How broad should we pursue a list of people to keep in the loop on what we are doing?\u00a0 Sarah suggested we stay in the circle of those who are aware and let it grow.\u00a0 All board members agreed.\u00a0 FYA will not purchase a mailing list.\u00a0 Brad said the News Miner will give us good support and coverage.\u00a0 We are getting a 30 second video made.\u00a0 We could also purchase paid TV time.\u00a0 Marylee said we currently have four monthly contributors\u2014need to build this for long term support.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah suggested a fair booth to get the word out.\u00a0 The drawback is that it requires a lot of man hours.\u00a0 FYA asked for five spots\u00a0in the dunk tank at the fair.\u00a0 All dollars go to the non-profit for their designated times.\u00a0\u00a0 We need a banner for this event.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Miller reported that within a week we should see things start on the building.<\/p>\n<p>The building crew wants to use our next door building for parking, bathroom, etc.\u00a0 This would add to our in-kind donation.\u00a0 Patrick was concerned about wear and tear on our building unless they want to restore it.\u00a0 Dave said let them use the site without coming into the\u00a0house.\u00a0 Brad suggested we ask what they say about restoring it after they use it.\u00a0 Dave\u00a0recommended we decline; not a value to us unless they give us more\u00a0 than $7200. \u00a0Brad said he would talk to them further about this.<\/p>\n<p>Treasurer\u2019s report:\u00a0 Brad Johnston\u00a0explained the financial reports through June 30 which were provided to all board members.\u00a0Three employees are covered by our \u00a0grant.\u00a0 Other employees are not.<\/p>\n<p>Discussion of donors and Greater Giving donation site.<\/p>\n<p>One Homeless Night:\u00a0 Barb Tyndall will meet with Shane Hopkins to organize and plan for this event which will probably take place in early September.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick wants to get donor page up with river theme (Yukon, Tanana, Chena).\u00a0 Board decided on $500 for Chena, $1,500 for Tanana, and\u00a0$2,500 for Yukon.<\/p>\n<p>Next Meeting:\u00a0 August 15 from 5-7 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting adjourned 6:53.<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully Submitted,<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Tyndall, Secretary<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fairbanks Youth Advocates July 9, 2013 Meeting called to order at 5:05. \u00a0Present:\u00a0 Patrick Endres, Sarah Finnell , Kathryn Birch , Brad Johnston, Barb Tyndall, Dave Miller, Marylee Bates Absent:\u00a0 Meryem Kugzruk, Jeff Bizzarro Prayer:\u00a0 Patrick opened in prayer Discussion of Rilene\u2019s resignation.
