Holidays are considered fringe in the state of Alaska. We do not have to consider them anything other than an ordinary workday and pay an employee straight time for time worked on that day.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It is my personal opinion that offering some sort of compensation is the least we can do for those who have no choice at times, but to work holidays. These are questions I am pondering:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If they work the holiday &#8211; do they get the hours they worked added to their leave time?<br \/>\nDo they get to trade those hours in for a day of their choosing?<br \/>\nIf they don&#8217;t work the holiday, do they still get paid for it?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If they terminate the employee relationship or are terminated &#8211; do they receive the day compensated in pay? or compensated in leave?<\/p>\n<p>Who does this apply to? all FYA employees &#8211; exempt, non- exempt, whether they work it or not?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There are probably a few questions here I have not thought of \u00a0&#8211; but if you have opinions &#8211; please feel welcome to share. I have already talked to Wage and Hour folks. They said &#8211; whatever we decide we just need to be clear etc.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">These are the holidays we are considering:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">New Year\u2019s Day,\u00a0Memorial Day,\u00a0Independence Day,\u00a0Labor Day,\u00a0Thanksgiving Day,\u00a0Day after Thanksgiving Day,\u00a0Christmas Day<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is to solicit your opinions regarding Holidays and employees.
