I would like to bring this request to the board, and if possible, I would request the board vote on this item prior to the board meeting on the 24th. I am bringing it specifically to the board because it is a significant budgetary item.<\/p>\n
In December, we utilized 22 different volunteers to help cover night shifts. Remember, at this time, we are staffing the shelter with a minimum of 2 people all night long, with one of those folks being an employee.<\/p>\n
We have hired two awesome shelter workers who are working nights; one person is exempt and is working 40+ hours ; the other person is paid by the hour ($16.25). We often seem to have 3 out of 7 nights that are not covered. We were always planning on hiring another part time position – because the exempt person MUST supervise 2 or more paid employees. Though I was hoping to postpone it for awhile, I am the person who ends up often working nights that need filling in. This wrecks havoc with my day schedule and meetings, etc. Also – I am concerned that when I leave on vacation in February – it will be too tight. Last week I worked 3 nights, this week I will most likely be working just 2.<\/p>\n
Budget:
\n$15.00@ 24 hours\/wk @ 52 weeks is approximately $18,720
\nWith FICA, Workers Comp and SUI, I estimate that costs will be no more than $21,646.00 \/year<\/p>\n
I have contacted the FNSB Mayor to ask about helping to support this as he mentioned wanting to back in November at the Candlelight vigil. However, even if they do not, we have the cash funds to do this and I am not sure there is anyway around it:<\/p>\n
The Shelter Supervisor, who is exempt, needs to supervise one more person as one of the qualifications of being an exempt employee.
\nThe Director cannot maintain days and nights.
\nPeople will take vacations and we will need a staff member to fill in.
\nThe hourly employee we have presently – can fill in some of the time, but that means overtime pay of $24.38\/hour. It makes more sense to hire a part time person.<\/p>\n
