Present:\u00a0 Patrick Endres, Kathy Birch, Sarah Finnell, Danny Bramer, Meryem Kugzruk, Rilene Ann, Barbara Tyndall, Marylee Bates, Jeff Bizzarro<\/p>\n
Absent:\u00a0 Dave Miller, Brad Johnston<\/p>\n
Opening Prayer: Marylee opened in prayer<\/p>\n
Minutes: Patrick moved to approve the November minutes; Rilene seconded; approved unanimously.<\/p>\n
We need a fourth signer for checks.\u00a0 Decision was postponed until our\u00a0 next meeting. Jeff Bizzarro was suggested as a possibility.<\/p>\n
Brochures were discussed.\u00a0 We have a new format with updated information.\u00a0 It was agreed to go to press this week to have the the new brochure ready in time for the art fundraiser in January.<\/p>\n
The board wants to express thanks to Dick Erwin, our AmeriCorp staff who will beleaving December 28.\u00a0 It was suggested that a cash gift would be best.\u00a0 Sarah is coming back but we want to bless her also.\u00a0 Board members will personally give donations for these gifts.\u00a0 Donating on Pay Pal is an option.<\/p>\n
FYA has an opportunity to advertise on the local buses.\u00a0 One sign is $50 per month\u00a0\u00a0or three signs in the bus (11 by 17) are $75 per month.\u00a0 These would target kids who ride the bus (ie \u201cNeed a place to stay?\u201d etc.) Sarah suggested we \u00a0target the middle schools.\u00a0 Patrick moved that we purchase three signs for a minimum of 4 months.\u00a0 Rilene seconded.\u00a0 Sarah suggested we partner with SOAP to share the cost.\u00a0 Joel\u2019s Place may also have funds for this.\u00a0 Passed unanimously.<\/p>\n
The bus transit center will now allow kids to wait there until the shelter opens at night.\u00a0 There was a problem but it has been sorted out.<\/p>\n
The creation of small handouts for young kids with various resources where they can get what they need was the next topic of discussion.\u00a0 Marylee approached FCA about developing this and\u00a0asked that our name be included\u00a0in the information.\u00a0 Randy Lewis suggested that our two organizations update this together.\u00a0 Marylee will continue to pursue this.<\/p>\n
Our web site now has a section titled \u201cNeed Help?\u201d\u00a0 Patrick suggested that the local information on the pamphlet eventually be added to this site.<\/p>\n
Jeff arrived and we introduced ourselves.\u00a0 He agreed to be our fourth signer.<\/p>\n
Our new web site is up now.\u00a0 It has a rotating slide show with information and contact information.\u00a0 Sarah makes weekly posts and keeps the site current. \u00a0The drop-downs have also been updated.<\/p>\n
Patrick asked about adding folks to our board.\u00a0 He said we need a person with computer and web site skills to help us with our web site.\u00a0 Several names\u00a0were suggested.\u00a0 Patrick suggested that our site be moved and partnered with Clearwater Counseling.\u00a0 He said there are security issues that need to be addressed.\u00a0 Marylee and Patrick will follow up on possible people\u00a0 who can do this work for us.<\/p>\n
Patrick gave a ten minute refresher on how to navigate the board website.<\/p>\n
Dashboard to Users will get us into our site to change passwords.\u00a0 We also looked at how to post travel dates.<\/p>\n
Board evaluations\u2014Most board members had an opportunity to preview these.\u00a0 Rilene is going to input the self evaluation into Survey Monkey and send\u00a0it to everyone to take the survey.\u00a0 Kathy will evaluate the more detailed evaluation and suggest items that can be deleted or clarified.<\/p>\n
Steve Holford is the artist who will be featured at the art fundraiser on January 25.\u00a0 This will take place at Friends Community Church.\u00a0 He would like this to be the biggest art show he has ever had.\u00a0 He requests that all of the board members attend.\u00a0 He indicated that approximately 60% of the sales would be donated to FYA.<\/p>\n
Marylee reported that we\u2019ve had nine different youth at the shelter; as many as five \u00a0and as few as one.\u00a0 There were four last night.\u00a0 The ages range from 17-21 and they are all male so far.\u00a0 The shelter is running smoothly.\u00a0 They are staffed with two volunteers from 9:00 to 11:00 and 9:00 to 8:00.\u00a0 Clients arrive on foot or people drop them off.\u00a0 The police called one night and asked if they could drop someone off.\u00a0 He was walking to the shelter and the police gave him a ride.\u00a0 Some went to the Rescue Mission first and they were brought to FYA by the Rescue Mission staff because we are a better fit for this age group.<\/p>\n
Marylee has hired a shelter supervisor.\u00a0 This employee will start doing shifts at the\u00a0shelter soon. \u00a0Another person she hired will start at the end of the month.<\/p>\n
Some money was generated with the letters.\u00a0 United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 1243 and the Local Laborer Political and Education Committee Laborers Local 942 have both made contributions. \u00a0The Usibeli Foundation has also donated. \u00a0MacCheyne\u2019s Carpet has said they will contribute and find others to help with carpeting.\u00a0 The Alaska Railroad indicated they would be glad to give tickets and door prizes for fundraisers.<\/p>\n
The house needs to be re-hooked for electricity.\u00a0 Marylee has asked Dave Miller to put in a ground rod.\u00a0 Jeff said he could furnish an electrician for this task.<\/p>\n
Patrick made a motion to nominate Jeff as a signer on the checking account. Barb seconded the motion, all agreed.<\/p>\n
