We looked at the Blog she posts daily.\u00a0She will be with us another year. Dick Irwin, Ameri-Corp member\u00a0and service project; he will be working with this winter\u2019s homeless youth<\/p>\n<p>Fatbet Equinox relay update and donations\u2014$1500 to date; if everyone pays, it will be $1600; even those who made weight, paid; the cat\u00a0did not make weight and paid up.<\/p>\n<p>Danny Bramer brought up the topic of aTeen Challenge project that has been\u00a0proposed by the pastor of Friends Church. It is in the planning stages and needs prayer. They have donated land; good funding; and good hearts. They would like to partner with FYA if possible. This project is based on the Teen Challenge model.\u00a0Rilene suggested he contact Graf for information and partnership.<\/p>\n<p>By-laws amendment suggestion: \u201cWe value the input of youth into our organization and therefore encourage that they participate with us at the board level. Voting requires a board member to be a minimum of 18 years \u00a0old, although they need not be 18 to be on the board as a youth\u00a0representative.\u201d Rilene moved to approve this change. Kathryn seconded.<br \/>\nApproved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p>Adopt updated strategic plan and operating goals: Marylee and Brad are\u00a0working on plans for a budget which will come into effect in January.\u00a0Brad suggested we review goals and objectives at the same time that we review budget and resources. They will have details in<br \/>\nOctober\/November.<\/p>\n<p>Need volunteers to be on Director\u2019s Job Evaluation Committee\u2014Rilene volunteered.\u00a0Brad suggested one board member evaluate the Exec. Director; Danny was\u00a0appointed to be the person to evaluate and bring the evaluation to the\u00a0FYA board for input.\u00a0Dave Miller said their board created a form with a rating of 1-10 that \u00a0anyone could use.<\/p>\n<p>Rodney suggested programmers and clients also evaluate the ED since their\u00a0representation in the community is critical to the project.\u00a0Rilene recalled that we talked about possibly using Survey Monkey\u00a0to collect data about services.\u00a0Danny, Rilene, and Dave will get Dave\u2019s evaluation form and rework it for \u00a0FYA needs.<\/p>\n<p>Information needed by board from Dave Bates\u2014what is our responsibility\u00a0as a board\u2014what information does he have that we will need?\u00a0It was suggested that statistics are helpful for getting our message across. \u00a0Client load and demographics of that clientele is also useful. Financial \u00a0statements are needed at least quarterly. We ned to interface with Dave by establishing non-patient goals, objectives, and resources. We can\u2019t evaluate him as an clinician. Trend analysis would be helpful once we have a track record. Marylee and Brad will include Dave in the planning for presenting on goals and budget.<\/p>\n<p>Dave\u2019s salary\u2014Cost of living\u2014Marylee stepped out of the room while the board members discussed this. Brad said the only cost of living data available\u00a0is based on Anchorage. Patrick asked if we need to compare the data\u00a0from 08 to 12. Brad said it should be part of the budget process for 2013. Some can be retroactive, depending\u00a0on our funding. He said the starting point is the budgeting process. Brad will get the numbers together for our next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Winter\u2019s Shelter Update\u2014<br \/>\nFirst Presbyterian\u2014will provide a place to sleep for ages 13-17 primarily\u00a0from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.<br \/>\nRecruiting volunteers:\u00a0Starting with unlicensed\u2014moving toward licensing<br \/>\nNeed two full time wake \u201cstaff\u201d 7 nights a week, every day of the year<br \/>\nBHAP $: We will apply for previously awarded funds for Director,<br \/>\nShelter Manager, Family Support Specialist (caseworker);<br \/>\nThe State\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0want us to do anything except shelter until<br \/>\nwe are licensed (could take 3-4 months); this requires<br \/>\npaperwork and information from Marylee<br \/>\nInitial cost:<br \/>\n\u2022 Higher liability insurance<br \/>\n\u2022 Fingerprinting&#8211;$55 per person if they do not have current print<br \/>\nand background check; Should have detailed requirements.<br \/>\n\u2022 $6000.00 per AmeriCorps member full time (1700 hours from Jan to Dec) ($1000.00 in Jan-balance by June)<br \/>\nBrad moved that FYA fund this $6000.00 Ameri-Corp position. Dave seconded. Approved unanimously.\u00a0Dave made a motion that volunteers pay for their\u00a0own fingerprinting. If they can\u2019t pay, a minimum of 48 hours of work is required if FYA pays for fingerprinting.\u00a0Patrick seconded the motion. Approved unanimously<br \/>\n\u2022 Fulltime to coordinate volunteers and help staff the\u00a0overnight shelter vs. paying someone a rate per\u00a0hour plus time and a half each night for manning the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting for City of Fairbanks for RFP (request for proposal)\u00a0Jim Loftus will provide thorough foundation study of the building.\u00a0Power and phone lines have been disconnected and the building \u00a0is ready for demolition work.<\/p>\n<p>Fundraiser Update\u2014Danny Bramer\u2014Main decision is the venue for February\u00a0event. During discussion, it was decided that the costs for the event were too high. Dave suggested we postpone for a year until we have a track record and some history in Fairbanks. We have no corporate sponsors.<br \/>\nRodney suggested we ask businesses to do a fundraiser for us. Brad said maybe we should ask for corporate\/personal donors to contribute to help \u201cOpen the Door\u201d. The fundraising committee will meet to discuss other\u00a0options.<\/p>\n<p>Bank Signers\u2014ED, Marylee Bates; President, Patrick Endres; Vice President, Danny Bramer; \u00a0and Secretary, Barbara Tyndall should be signers. The treasurer, Brad Johnston \u00a0will not be a signer. Patrick made a motion that the Executive\u00a0Director, Marylee Bates;\u00a0President, Patrick Endres; \u00a0Vice President, Danny Bramer; and Secretary, Barbara Tyndall\u00a0be the signers for FYA.\u00a0Dave seconded.
