Fundraising ideas:
\nJune\/July Markets<\/strong>\u2014Marylee reported that this is friend-raising, not fundraising; There are many stories and community connections being made.\u00a0 $95 worth of \u00a0rosettes were sold last week.\u00a0 The Vistas\u00a0are collecting names and connections; a clip board is available for folks to sign.
\nSeptember<\/strong>: Sleep-Out (Thirst Youth Group\u2014city-wide youth group)
\nThirst wants to take this over since this is a theme for them. Pledges are collected for youth to spend night for FYA.
\nNovember:<\/strong>\u00a0 National RHY (Runaway Homeless Youth)\u00a0 Rodney suggested we talk to schools since this is a national event.\u00a0 Let them know how much is needed per youth.\u00a0 Provide low numbers for everyone to give.\u00a0 Danny and Rilene will research some of the costs and statistics that we can disseminate and use for partnering with our community on behalf of these youth.\u00a0 We will educate on making folks aware of the problem and let them know the problem is not just ours.\u00a0 There is a need to bombard the community on how important this issue is.\u00a0 Use News Miner to let folks know and write public thank you for even small donations.\u00a0 Use radio stations; PSA rotations.\u00a0 Can put a face to a story and put in the TV PSA rotations.\u00a0 Make these connections now.\u00a0 Start writing these now\u201415 to 30 seconds.
\nMonologues<\/strong> may be used in conjunction with the Candlight Vigil in November or postponed until a later date.
\nFebruary:<\/strong>\u00a0 Project Run-Away\u2014clothing run way; sewing contests; perhaps making it an annual event.\u00a0 A silent auction was suggested.\u00a0 May get teams to compete on making clothing.\u00a0 Patrick thought this idea might only attract younger people.\u00a0 Rodney said we need an annual event to tap businesses once a year.\u00a0 He said February is a good month because it is early in the business cycle and other non profits are not doing anything at this time.
\nVideo:\u00a0 <\/strong>Danny asked about progress on an informational video.\u00a0 It is still in the discussion stage.
\nDonations: <\/strong>Danny suggested we need to offer monthly donations instead of just lump sum donations on-line.\u00a0 Rodney said we also ask the question:\u00a0 \u201cWhy do you give?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWhy us?\u201d\u00a0 Shows us who our audience is and helps us market.<\/p>\n

Retreat:\u00a0<\/strong> Dates are still being decided.\u00a0 The focus will be our Constituency Model, board training, team building, and brainstorming.\u00a0 It was suggested that it\u00a0should last\u00a0about 4-6 hours.\u00a0 Dave M. suggested we make the window smaller to cover needed topics and also make it incredibly convenient and comfortable\u2014not far out somewhere.\u00a0 August 25-26 was suggested for a breakfast meeting; 8am to 1pm.\u00a0 Members need to check their calendars and confirm if the date is acceptable for them.<\/p>\n

\nDanny, Patrick (MSP) to elect\u00a0Barb Tyndall secretary of FYA<\/p>\n

Our Identity<\/strong>\u2014Patrick, Brad (MSP) to proceed with paperwork necessary to make the change officially from Clearwater Ministries Inc. to Fairbanks Youth Advocates.\u00a0\u00a0We can proceed to officially change our bylaws for a 501c3 name change as of this date.<\/p>\n

New Timeline<\/strong>:\u00a0 Dave reported that we will not be able to complete our facility this season.\u00a0 Fifty-one percent of CDBG grant funds must be spent on design, permits, etc by December 31. Design\/Build format.\u00a0 Timeline is six\u00a0months later than anticipated.<\/p>\n

Grants:\u00a0<\/strong> BHAP $98,000 for a program director, shelter manager, case worker.\u00a0 ESG $21,000 for utilities and insurance.\u00a0\u00a0 We can\u2019t justify shelter manager, caseworker, or utilities since the facility will not be ready.\u00a0 We can justify our program director salary\u00a0because she is working full time to get the shelter in place.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We will ask for \u00a0a portion of this \u00a0money but\u00a0will no longer get the entire amount.
\nFinance:
\n<\/strong>Annual budget has been created by Brad and Marylee.\u00a0\u00a0At the time they met\u00a0\u00a0it was \u00a0thought that the shelter would be open earlier.\u00a0 BCP grant $132,000 was\u00a0 for staff positions.\u00a0 This is a highly competitive national grant.\u00a0 Staff will continue to work on it for submission next year.\u00a0 This is a three year grant.Rodney cautioned us not to be grant dependent; so we will continue to operate if grants go away.\u00a0 Dave is intent on making the building extremely energy efficient which Rodney said will help us in secure potential grants.<\/p>\n

Potential Redesign<\/strong>:\u00a0 Discussion of office space.\u00a0 Marylee and staff need a new officespace since what they are using will potentially be used for another counselor at Clearwater Counseling.\u00a0 Need to keep Dave Bates officesmore professional.\u00a0 Patrick suggested we look at another space.\u00a0 Marylee wondered if the basement in our facility would be operable this winter.\u00a0 Dave was unsure but thought it would be used for laundry, storage, etc.\u00a0 Office space is needed away from the shelter\u2014five positions.\u00a0 Brad recommended leaving Dave\u2019s office for counseling and find a place that meets our immediate needs.\u00a0 Put a package together with long-term plan that will work for some time.\u00a0 Dave said there are cheap, not so pretty offices available downtown.\u00a0 Marylee is going to ask Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption if they are staying in their present building.<\/p>\n
