{"id":1101,"date":"2012-06-20T15:00:45","date_gmt":"2012-06-20T23:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fairbanksyouthadvocates.org\/board\/?p=1101"},"modified":"2015-01-05T14:27:02","modified_gmt":"2015-01-05T23:27:02","slug":"june-19-2012-meeting-minutesdraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fairbanksyouthadvocates.org\/board\/2012\/06\/20\/june-19-2012-meeting-minutesdraft\/","title":{"rendered":"June 19, 2012 Meeting Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>Fairbanks Youth Advocates Board Meeting<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>June 19,2012, 5:00-7:05<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Roll Call<\/strong>:<br \/>\nPresent:\u00a0 Patrick Endres, Dave Miller, Brad Johnston, Danny Bramer, Kathy Birch, Barbara Tyndall, Rilene Ann, Rodney Gaskins (Rescue Mission)<br \/>\nEd\/PD Marylee Bates, Dave Bates<br \/>\nAbsent:\u00a0 Sarah Finnell<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to Rilene Ann to the FYA Board<\/p>\n<p>May Minutes: \u00a0Patrick, Danny (MSP)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unfinished Business:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Fundraising ideas:<br \/>\n<strong>June\/July Markets<\/strong>\u2014Marylee reported that this is friend-raising, not fundraising; There are many stories and community connections being made.\u00a0 $95 worth of \u00a0rosettes were sold last week.\u00a0 The Vistas\u00a0are collecting names and connections; a clip board is available for folks to sign.<br \/>\n<strong>September<\/strong>: Sleep-Out (Thirst Youth Group\u2014city-wide youth group)<br \/>\nThirst wants to take this over since this is a theme for them. Pledges are collected for youth to spend night for FYA.<br \/>\n<strong>November:<\/strong>\u00a0 National RHY (Runaway Homeless Youth)\u00a0 Rodney suggested we talk to schools since this is a national event.\u00a0 Let them know how much is needed per youth.\u00a0 Provide low numbers for everyone to give.\u00a0 Danny and Rilene will research some of the costs and statistics that we can disseminate and use for partnering with our community on behalf of these youth.\u00a0 We will educate on making folks aware of the problem and let them know the problem is not just ours.\u00a0 There is a need to bombard the community on how important this issue is.\u00a0 Use News Miner to let folks know and write public thank you for even small donations.\u00a0 Use radio stations; PSA rotations.\u00a0 Can put a face to a story and put in the TV PSA rotations.\u00a0 Make these connections now.\u00a0 Start writing these now\u201415 to 30 seconds.<br \/>\n<strong>Monologues<\/strong> may be used in conjunction with the Candlight Vigil in November or postponed until a later date.<br \/>\n<strong>February:<\/strong>\u00a0 Project Run-Away\u2014clothing run way; sewing contests; perhaps making it an annual event.\u00a0 A silent auction was suggested.\u00a0 May get teams to compete on making clothing.\u00a0 Patrick thought this idea might only attract younger people.\u00a0 Rodney said we need an annual event to tap businesses once a year.\u00a0 He said February is a good month because it is early in the business cycle and other non profits are not doing anything at this time.<br \/>\n<strong>Video:\u00a0 <\/strong>Danny asked about progress on an informational video.\u00a0 It is still in the discussion stage.<br \/>\n<strong>Donations: <\/strong>Danny suggested we need to offer monthly donations instead of just lump sum donations on-line.\u00a0 Rodney said we also ask the question:\u00a0 \u201cWhy do you give?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWhy us?\u201d\u00a0 Shows us who our audience is and helps us market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>Retreat:\u00a0<\/strong> Dates are still being decided.\u00a0 The focus will be our Constituency Model, board training, team building, and brainstorming.\u00a0 It was suggested that it\u00a0should last\u00a0about 4-6 hours.\u00a0 Dave M. suggested we make the window smaller to cover needed topics and also make it incredibly convenient and comfortable\u2014not far out somewhere.\u00a0 August 25-26 was suggested for a breakfast meeting; 8am to 1pm.\u00a0 Members need to check their calendars and confirm if the date is acceptable for them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>Board Officers<\/strong>:<br \/>\nPatrick, Dave (MSP) to\u00a0elect Danny Bramer \u00a0vice president of FYA<br \/>\nDanny, Patrick (MSP) to elect\u00a0Barb Tyndall secretary of FYA<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>Our Identity<\/strong>\u2014Patrick, Brad (MSP) to proceed with paperwork necessary to make the change officially from Clearwater Ministries Inc. to Fairbanks Youth Advocates.\u00a0\u00a0We can proceed to officially change our bylaws for a 501c3 name change as of this date.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>New Timeline<\/strong>:\u00a0 Dave reported that we will not be able to complete our facility this season.\u00a0 Fifty-one percent of CDBG grant funds must be spent on design, permits, etc by December 31.
